Just another update
Submitted by Spinlock on Sunday 27th of January 2008 09:42:02 PM Filed underJust thought I'd throw an update out there. I haven't blogged here in over a year, and that trend is likely to continue into the foreseeable future.
I recently moved off-campus to a lovely little apartment. I like the privacy and the space, but I do miss having constant access to the internet.

Updated in more ways than one
Submitted by Spinlock on Thursday 30th of November 2006 07:16:34 PM Filed underHere's what's new in the life of Spinlock... it's been awhile since I last blogged, but a lot has happened in the past month and it's time to bring everybody up to date. More on Slack 11, look-alikes, Linux on a laptop, and why you shouldn't judge a Macbook by your imagination after the jump.

Will the spam never stop?
Submitted by Spinlock on Thursday 8th of June 2006 08:05:55 PM Filed underWhen you hear about spam in the news, they're always talking about email spam... but of late, the spammers are taking a different tack, and it seems that they're not giving up without a fight.

Beta Testing 101
Submitted by Spinlock on Tuesday 16th of May 2006 08:03:09 PM Filed underEver have one of those days when you can't stand end users? I know I have.
There are several expectations end users have for people creating software, or even Linux distros. They want it to work on their hardware, they want it to be stable, and they want it right now. But, at the same time, new releases shouldn't come too often, or it messes up the feng shui of their systems.

First Time For Everything
Submitted by Spinlock on Tuesday 9th of May 2006 06:37:23 PM Filed underJust thought I'd throw this out there. I registered to reply to a comment, and since I've got my own blog...
Anyway, you can check here for my adventures in Slax Linux, as well as whatever else I pick up along the way. I've got great plans for some of the old computers I have lying around, and I'll update as I learn things. I've got things to say, but I don't have so much time to say them... Oh well, that's life when you're in spinlock.

Red Hat Hires a Blind Software Engineer to Improve Accessibility on Linux DesktopAccessibility on a Linux desktop is not one of the strongest points to highlight. However, GNOME, one of the best desktop environments, has managed to do better comparatively (I think). In a blog post by Christian Fredrik Schaller (Director for Desktop/Graphics, Red Hat), he mentions that they are making serious efforts to improve accessibility. Starting with Red Hat hiring Lukas Tyrychtr, who is a blind software engineer to lead the effort in improving Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Fedora Workstation in terms of accessibility. |
