Karl Lattimer has created an experimental radial menu widget for GNOME called Fittsmenu. The Fittsmenu widget still has some glitches, but it is an impressive demonstration of the potential for practical GNOME user interface enhancements that support visually attractive features like transparency.
I was able to compile it without any trouble on Ubuntu 7.04 as well as Ubuntu 7.10. It looks great and the code for the demo is relatively straightforward. According to Lattimer, the Fittsmenu widget is one of several that will be included in libsexier, an open source interface programming library named that will offer aesthetically pleasing Cairo-rendered widgets.
