Short bio: Computer Scientist, FOSS supporter (read more)
Tux Machines (TM)-specific
There’s a lot of great distros out there, but Debian just meets my taste. I’ve been using Debian over a year now and this is why I love it: Freedom.
This freedom and “love for the sea” exists in Debian. For the developer you have the freedom to work on any aspect of the project you want. You can vote with as much say as all other developers. Though there is a project leader, he is one of you, a volunteer who does what they do because they love it. For the User, as Gentoo user would say, its about choices. If you only want to install a 100MB system, or want a several Gigabyte system, the choice is yours. If you want a pure server install or desktop install, you’ve got it. If you want an optimized system which compiles specifically for your hardware there are tools like apt-build for you. You have the freedom to install on more architectures than any other distro. If you want Debian on a PDA, great.
