On behalf of the Solus team and community, we’re extremely proud to announce the immediate availability of Solus 3. This is the third iteration of Solus since our move to become a rolling release operating system. Unlike the previous iterations, however, this is a release and not a snapshot. We’ve now moved away from the “regular snapshot” model to accommodate the best hybrid approach possible - feature rich releases with explicit goals and technology enabling, along with the benefits of a curated rolling release operating system.

  • Solus 3 Linux Distribution Released For Enthusiasts

    Today marks the third iteration of the rolling-release Solus Linux distribution project that has become increasingly popular with enthusiasts and is also aligned with their own Budgie Desktop Environment.

    Solus 3 is riding off the Linux 4.12 kernel, Mesa 17.1.6, Firefox 55, and a plethora of other package upgrades. There are also various changes like enabling AppArmor LSM, adding support for Ubuntu Snaps, Budgie Desktop improvements, and a range of other enhancements throughout.

  • Solus 3 Debuts with Support for Ubuntu's Snaps, Linux 4.12 & Budgie Desktop 10.4

    Solus Project's Joshua Strobl informs Softpedia on Tuesday about the general availability of the Solus 3 operating system, a major release that introduces new kernel and graphics stacks, new technologies, and up-to-date components.

    Powered by the Linux 4.12 kernel and Mesa 17.1.6, Solus 3 contains all of the latest open-source apps, including but not limited to Mozilla Firefox 55.0.1 as default web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 52.2.1 as default email and news client, LibreOffice as default office suite, and Rhythmbox 3.4.1 as default audio player, which ships with the latest release of the Alternative Toolbar extension.
