New Gnome Control Center for Ubuntu’s Feisty Fawn & Gnome 2.17

Software

One of the more noteworthy changes that users you will likely see in the next release of Ubuntu’s Feisty Fawn and in Gnome 2.18, will be a new Gnome Control Center. The concept of having a central control center to manage user preference’s and system administration tasks is not new. Currently the Gnome Control Center will remind users quite a bit with the familiar Windows XP Control Panel (for better or worse). Things could change, because both Feisty Fawn and Gnome 2.17/2.18 are in active development and are not expected to be finished until April of 2007. With that stated, this article will poke around the current Gnome Control Center, as it is in the Herd 2 build of Feisty Fawn (which includes Gnome 2.17.5) to give users an idea what to expect when Feisty and the other major Linux distributions releases the next Gnome desktop.

The Gnome Control Center has a resemblence to Windows XP’s Control Panel. As with the cascading menu style, the new control center has positives and negatives.
