MassMutual gives computers

MassMutual Financial Group donated 100 computers to Springfield Technical Community College yesterday for use by students who cannot afford to purchase a computer.

After updating hardware throughout the building, MassMutual opted to donate the excess computers, said Ronald A. Copes, vice president of community relations.

"This was a good opportunity to help someone who can't afford a computer," Copes said, explaining that 600 computers will be donated to nonprofit organizations, schools, and community centers. "MassMutual has long felt that the biggest impact we can have on the community is through education."

The computers were stripped of software and any proprietary information, Copes said.

Four STCC students will refurbish the computers, which are about three to four years old, and load them with free open source software, a Linux-based system called Ubuntu.

re: MassMutual

Wow - giving away 3-4 year old computers. Are they generous or what? Considering they'd have to pay around $20-$40 each to recycle them, I'm guessing they're more "or what" then generous. I'm sure the people who will receive these doorstops will be appropriately gratuitous. I'd also bet dollars to donuts that these wonderfully kind people are probably claiming a tax deduction of several hundred dollars apiece for their bountiful donation.

re: MassMutual

Well, someone who doesn't have a computer might appreciate anything given to them, although I think the point was that some guy over at the school is gonna extend the use of these old machines by installing a Linux on them. A better fate than ending up in the garbage heap.

No argument there.

I just thought the article had way (WAY) more spin then required (even when considering it's from a daily newspaper).

Mass Mutual has the best life insurance ?

Mass Mutual has for their own people, half whole life and half term, which has 95% cash value. $100,000 insurance is really good investment at their rate of dividend.

We were lucky to get such a life insurance. Look them up to see if you can get this life insurance?
