Wireless Internet Connection

Hardware

Hi I am new to Linux and have so far played about with ubuntu, pclinuxOS and have recently installed Sam Linux 2007. I must admit that i was rather cautious at first about using linux but have so far it has exceeded my expectations. I just have one problem.

Just recently my port switch on my gateway/access point broke which left me with no wired connection. I decide to go with the option of buying a wireless usb stick for my desktop. I bought a belkin wireless usb and it works fine through windows but i am not having any luck in Linux. In Sam and pcLinux it recognises the driver as rt73, but in the device manager equivalent it is an unknown driver.

I have tried setting up my wireless internet connection. It even comes up with the name of the usb stick and my network but i am still not able to connect. Is this a problem with the driver? Does Sam Linux support WPA-PSK, as this is what i use? I have also tried connecting using WEP?

Does anyone have any ideas or is there a distro out there that supports these?

I really do want to learn more about linux

Well, wpa was broken in earlier pclos 2007 tests, and I believe Sam to be based on test 1 of pclos 2007. So, I'd say no it isn't supported in Sam. Actually, I should test it in test 3 of pclos before really answering, but until I get back to this and edit it, why don't you disable wpa on your router/access point long enough to see if it'd connect without it? WEP works in both.

usb ethernet? shoo, I don't know much about them. What is the exact brand and model number? What does ifconfig, iwconfig, and iwlist scan say?

EDIT: After further tests I found that yes, wpa-psk is working in PCLOS 2007 Test 3, but not Sam 2007. Try connecting without wpa and see if the hardware is working first.

The usb networking adapter

The usb networking adapter is a Belkin F5D7050UK. I will try the above suggestions and get back to you.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
