Seen in a Sig
I frequently chuckle at the sigs I see in peoples' posts and emails. My friends and I send 'em back and forth to enjoy as we run across them. Seeing another today gave me the idea to start a thread here and save some for posterity. So, if you see a cool, funny, or profound signature, please contribute.
I'll start off with the one I saw today:

new sig seen
Well, it was new to me and I got a little chuckle:
- Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software.
Kinda ironic it was seen on the gentoo forum (oh SHOCK! - problems updating in gentoo? </sarcasm>), in one of veteran poster dcoats' posts.
pretty cute sig
Seen on the gentoo forums:

Social Commentary, anyone?
/. comment in response to release of Kubuntu:
News out now about a special windows license: Wubuntu (ancient african word meaning: blue screens for everyone). Wubuntu will use the upcoming Qt toolkit for Windows. Further down the road: Macuntu, OS2untu (pronounced: ozuntu). I can't wait. Gotta go now, strange beeps from my Nokia 7610. Guess Symbiuntu 0.01a is giving up.

Should be a sig
Who uses gentoo?
People who know what they want and idiots who think that having a three-lines $CFLAGS and $LDFLAGS and recompiling everything from sources or using overpatched kernel sources speed-up anything significantly.

Brief History Of Linux (#20)
Linux is born
Linus' superhuman programming talent produced, within a year, a full
operating system that rivaled Minix. The first official announcement on
comp.os.minix came October 5th, in which Linus wrote these famous words:
Do you pine for the nice days of minix-1.1, when men were men and wrote
their own device drivers? Do you want to cut your teeth on an operating
system that will achieve world domination within 15 years? Want to get
rich quick by the end of the century by taking money from hordes of
venture capitalists and clueless Wall Street suits? Need to get even
with Bill Gates but don't know what to do except throw cream pies at
him? Then this post might just be for you
Linux (which was known as "Lindows", "Freax", and "Billsux" for short
periods in 1991) hit the bigtime on January 5, 1992 (exactly one year
after Linus wasn't hit by a bus) when version 0.12 was released under the
GNU GPL. Linus called his creation a "better Minix than Minix"; the famous
Linus vs. Tanenbaum flamewar erupted soon thereafter on January 29th and
injured several Usenet bystanders.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
