Puppy 2.16.1 released recently can be recommended ?
Puppy started same as PcLos with Mandrake v9.2. As Puppy version 0.93, I recommended it as the tiny Linux to be used.
Then it went with Vector Linux base and had some limitations with i486 codes instead of the normal i386 codes everyone uses.
Now it is compiled with T2. So, we have the urge to take a look?
First try was Disk error=10(suspected fragmentation on hdd). Scandisk my hdd and try magiciso to burn it again. But lack of dram and ide=nodma, etc. caused a kernel panic. Cheat codes were abandoned and booted on 256mb of dram.
The operating system now has automatic connection to Internet. Previous, you have to do modem wizard, then gkdial, then Mozilla. Now you can click an icon and the script will put you in SeaMonkey browser(Dillo) and you are on the Internet.
Footnote:
Previous copies of Puppy had downloads of over 65,000 each. Puppy v2.16.1 is still only 7,500ish. Compared with Austrumi of over 743,600 copies of download cumulative of all versions, eastern Europeans are more hungry for tiny Linux.
In conclusion:
Gxine can have full size panel on your monitor. As more automation is included, Puppy can be a usable Linux tiny operating system of 90 mb length. For more historic info on Puppy Linux, vist:
