Why Dell should offer more than just Ubuntu

In the US Dell has famously started offering Ubuntu on selected machines as a direct alternative to XP or Vista. Fortunately these machines cost less than their Windows counterparts and that's good, but Dell really should consider moving beyond offering Ubuntu; and here's why.

Offering Ubuntu is an excellent step in the right direction; bringing quality open source operating systems to the mainstream market. It surprised no-one that they chose Ubuntu, the current poster child of popular Linux and with a suitably strong (and large) community behind it to boot.

However, Dell aren't offering *that* much support for these Ubuntu machines are they?

re: Why Dell

Why is it without fail that all these people who write "business advice" or "open letters" or "They should..." articles have never worked in a real business environment or even taken Business 101.

Hard to tell which group is more pathetic, these guys, or the fat-ass oafish crowd of "arm chair quarterbacks" that scream advice to the television set.

Dell, Ubuntu and the rest of the world

I don't think Dell must offer other than Ubuntu.
I'm a Dell user, I like Ubuntu, but I posted on IdeaStorm that Dell should offer the option "without OS preinstalled".
Or you can write on Ubuntu.
Simple.
