POLICE have arrested three men in central India for allegedly downloading pornographic clips onto their mobile phones.

The Press Trust of India news agency quoted police saying they had caught the men downloading obscene images from computers onto their mobile phones during a raid in Jabalpur town in Madhya Pradesh.

"We conducted the raid after a complaint that an obscene Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) clip of a local girl was being circulated through mobile phones," a police spokesman told the news agency.

"Three computers and eight pornographic tapes were also seized from them."
The arrested men were vendors of computers and electronic goods.

India's Information Technology Act 2000 bans dissemination of obscene images, with punishment of up to five years imprisonment and hefty fines.
