Review: Linux Mint 3.0
Linux Mint, a derivative of Ubuntu which ultimately is a derivative of Debian, is a distribution that seeks to take what Ubuntu did wrong, and do it right. Their goal is to provide the most complete, out of the box experience a user can have in a linux distribution. This includes browser plugins, media codecs, dvd playback and more. Their motto, “From freedom to elegance”, details this very well. But exactly how elegant is Linux Mint? Is it all talk and no mint, or is it really a distribution you can sink your teeth into? Well, let’s dive in and find out.
Out of the box, Linux Mint is supposed to be the “click and go” linux distribution. Just boot the live cd, install it, and then you’re ready to go without any huss or fuss. That’s not exactly true. While the concept is good in theory, it’s not achieved in practice. But fear not! While there are some shortcomings, those are rather easily overcome.
