Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tops U.S. box office again
U.S. moviegoers still had a sweet tooth this weekend as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" came out on top at the box office for a second straight week.
The Tim Burton-Johnny Depp collaboration grossed an estimated $28.3 million, bringing its total after two weekends in release to $114.1, Daily Variety reported.
The Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughn comedy "Wedding Crashers" finished No. 2 for a second straight week, taking in an estimated $26.2 million -- and running its overall number to $80.9 million.
In its third weekend in theaters, "Fantastic Four" took in $12.3 million.
"The Island" -- the newest picture from action-master Michael Bay -- checked into the U.S. theaters with a disappointing $12.4 million, Variety said, good for just a fourth-place finish. The weekend`s other new wide release, Billy Bob Thornton`s update on "Bad News Bears," came in at No. 5 with $11.2 million.
Two new movies in limited release performed well. "Hustle & Flow" grossed $8.1 million on 1,013 screens, and Rob Zombie`s "The Devil`s Rejects" took in $7 million at 1,757 locations.
"March of the Penguins" cracked the Top 10 with $4.3 million, although it played on just 695 screens.
