'Crashers' website loses 'medal'
Bowing to pressure from angry military veterans, New Line Cinema said it would delete one feature of its "Wedding Crashers" website that allowed users to print out a fake medal, the New York Daily News reported.
In one scene in the comedy hit, Owen Wilson's and Vince Vaughn's characters pretend to be Purple Heart recipients as a way of wooing bridesmaids. Veterans were especially incensed by the weddingcrashersmovie.com website, which offered a printable Purple Heart and the advice that "carrying a Purple Heart in your jacket guarantees you attention, admiration and plenty of free booze."
On Thursday, the site's "Crasher Kit" no longer included the printable Purple Heart but did have another feature allowing men to superimpose their own photo onto an image of a uniformed soldier, as well as those of a mountain climber and a baseball player, to "produce some photo evidence of the hero you are." A New Line representative said there were no plans to modify the site further.
