PC World claims Linux melts laptops
THE "TECH" PEOPLE at PC World seem to think that Linux is responsible for creating manufacturing faults.
A Slashdot reader took his five-month-old laptop into PC World with a broken hinge to the display which had cracked the plastic casing.
However the technical wizards at PC World refused to fix the fault because the punter had replaced the pre-installed Windows Vista with Gentoo Linux.

Um, read the article again.
The hinge CRACKED, it didn't melt. Gentoo didn't cause the failure. This is just a case of the retailer weaseling out of their warranty and support responsibilities through a technicality that had nothing to do with the problem.
