Is Linux innovative?
When you ask google for innovations in Linux what you get is rather disappointing - on the first page there’s somebody’s rather uninformed attack on Linux as lacking innovation, some PR bumbf, and five separate references to a joint IBM/Red Hat press release entitled “IBM, Red Hat Announce New Development Innovations in Linux Kernels”.
At the more general level the arguments for “Linux as innovative” come in three distinct forms:
1. first there’s the argument that the Linux kernel development process - highly collaborative, easily accessible, open source, internet based - was, or is, innovative.
In fact this isn’t true.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources.
