Earlier this week Everex launched the gPC TC2502, which is a sub-$200 PC sold at a major US retailer, but what makes this unique is that it runs the gOS. The gOS (GreenOS) is designed to be a conceptual Google Operating System that is based upon Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.
Though this is not the conventional GNOME desktop environment but an Enlightenment E17 desktop is used that is heavily modified and reflects a green Google theme. The gOS provides easy access to Google services such as YouTube, Google Product Search, Google Calendar, and Google Maps.

Google Desktop extensions ? Will it sell ?
Google extensions are financially supported by two revenue streams. The advertizing revenue from large social crowd clicking away at 1000 clicks/20 cents(US), or one cents(RMB) in china. The other is exclusive social clubs such as Postini email for $50/mo/seat. Google can compete with WinXP and Vista for office software revenue.
So, extensions of desktop will work, but with limited capability than paid application software. Linux application software are free but not professional quality(without bugs).
We estimate the gOS will have limited sales at Walmart. The folks at Everex has also a market at TigerDirect, but otherwise silent in the distribution world.
Will gOS take over the world, not likely. In traditional market analysis, the highest quality and the lowest quality products sell to 1% of the population. The products in between sells according to per capita income.
