Several distributions such as Fedora are shipping Gnome with Nautilus configured in spatial mode. This means that there’s no toolbar, no address bar and worst of all, each folder opens in a new window. A file manager in spatial mode is nothing more than a relic from the mid 90s that’s good only at cluttering people’s desktops with unnecessary windows.
So, if you ever end-up using a Gnome-based distribution with Nautilus set in spatial mode, here’s where you have to go to set it in browser mode:

Microsoft started with Internet explorer and file Explorer ?
Microsoft missed out on all-in-one browser, because they only tried to knock out Netscape browser.
Today, for most computer users, we need a browser operating system, which can have control center to install all the hardware in software.
Then you have the software browser to download all the info you need. Which is triple play, broadcasting info, broadband Internet info and info from friends on telephone?
Obviously info of any kind is done by search engine. Info edited by yourself need drag and drop which is cut and paste, to put on your own webpage(presentation or to impress people by print screen or faxed webpage).
This may be the next Vista, the way it looks. When will open source community get the fancy, we hope soon?
Footnote for WilliamG:
Use addressbar as terminal to key in the demands? Treat addressbar entries as info on the header of .net(internet) or posix(your own computer) packets?

Addressbar needs a new file system by itself for many small applications to be launched?
