Gentoo on an Alienware Sentia
Following the Gentoo Handbook was mostly easy. The rumor is, Gentoo is the hardest Linux distribution to use. This is partly due to the fact that the installation process involves:
Partitioning disk space
Compiling a kernel
Configuring a bootloader
Compiling and setting up a window manager
As a Ubuntu user, I feel like finally going into the deep end of Linux. I know my way around a terminal. I can get by with vi. And four years after wiping my dad's computer with a Fedora install (it was supposed to be on my external USB drive), I now know my way around fdisk and G/QtParted. Downloading, burning, and booting the ISO are the easiest, most routine steps I know. I shrunk Windows XP to give Gentoo 21GB. Now for the hard part: the kernel build.
The kernel compile was actually pretty easy.
