HOW TO: Mandriva 2008 on HP dv6000
I had a somewhat difficult time getting Mandriva 2008 to work on my HP dv6113us, and given the lack of posts regarding this particular laptop series (despite its popularity), I figured I'd document what steps I took to get a FULLY FUNCTIONING Mandriva install.
This guide should work for dv9000 and dv2000 series as well, as long as the components are similar. Obviously the Compaq equivalents of the aforementioned HP models would apply here too.
For those interested, my particulars are:
Turion X2 processor
Broadcom 43xx Wireless (via Ndiswrapper)
Realtek HD Audio
Geforce 6150
I have suspend/standby, the headphone jack, wireless, and graphics all working perfectly. USB works, and so does power management.
First and foremost, to get Mandriva booting to the livecd without freezing after about 5 minutes, add the lines "noapic", "irqpoll", and "noirqdebug" to your boot line in the initial Grub menu.
"noapic" alone will permit Mandriva to boot, but disables the USB ports. Adding "irqpoll" and "noirqdebug" fixes that.
