China`s online game addiction checked
China is cracking down on online game addiction in the country with a system that will cut the benefits players gain in the games.
The "anti-online game addiction system" is intended to protect players from the mental and physical perils of spending too much time in front of computers, the Financial Times reported.
The new system is to be implemented by local Internet companies that have signed a code of conduct drawn up by China`s press and publications administration, the report said.
An estimated 25 million Chinese play online role-playing games involving interaction with characters like warrior heroes and powerful magicians, the Times reported.
The new standards will consider up to three hours of play "healthy" and more than five hours as "unhealthy."
Under the new system, players, who have played more than five hours, will be told every 15 minutes: "You have entered unhealthy game time, please go offline immediately to rest. If you do not your health will be damaged and the benefits you can win will be cut to zero."
