Loverspy creator indicted
The author and customers of a spyware program face charges and stiff penalities for violation of computer privacy laws.
Carlos Enrique Perez-Melara created a program that could be used to spy on the online activities of others. Marketed as a tool to spy on your lover's online activities in order to catch them cheating, it is delivered as any other email spyware program, as an innocuous greeting. Once the program is executed, it collects online activities and phones home the information that is then relayed to the paying customers. The program was sold for $89 to approximately 1,000 people.
Perez-Melara faces 35 counts and 4 customers were indicted on two counts each.
