Installing a modern Linux distribution
I began installing Linux quite a few years ago starting with Red Hat 9 "Shrike". Though this was not too long ago in the physical world it was an eon ago in digital time, The concept of a live cd was a pipe dream and Anaconda Reigned supreme, Compiz was a dream in the back of a young College students head, Distributions came on multiple discs and had multiple options at install time. This was a time of the primitive Linux Distribution.
Todays modern Linux distribution or operating system is a different animal all together than those of days gone by. On one disc I get my entire OS, Desktop (KDE, Gnome, XFCE, Fluxbox) office suite, IM clients, games, and so much more. The list of differences is huge and a bit beyond the scope of this article. For our purposes we will focus on the install process of Ubuntu Linux not because of any particular love for that specific distribution but simply because it has a regular release cycle and stays fairly well modern as technology progresses.
