OOXML expert: ODF standard is broken
Alex Brown, a document-format expert who is convenor of the process to standardise Office Open XML (OOXML), posted a blog this week reporting the results of tests which he claims reveal that OpenOffice documents do not conform to the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO's) version of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) standard.
Speaking to ZDNet.co.uk this week, Brown, who reported similar problems between Microsoft Office 2007 documents and the OOXML standard, said the standardised version of ODF, known as ISO/IEC 26300:2006, "has a defect which prevents any document claiming validity from being actually valid. Consequently, there are no XML documents in existence which are valid to ISO ODF."
There is a critical flaw in the ODF schema defined by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (Oasis) and approved by ISO as ISO/IEC 26300:2006, according to Brown's blog, which means that no XML document can conform to the standard.

Very Inaccurate
He doesn't know what he's doing. See this clarification. Additionally, Alex seems to be well in Microsoft's pocket.
Please note that Roy is a proven conspiracy theorist
with a paranoia and a tendency to insult people. Sowing the seeds of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt against major Linux distributions like openSUSE, Xandros, Linspire, his fellow Linuxers and also agains BSD.
Roy Schestowitz is running the worst slander/FUD-site ever; be aware of offending pictures and use of fecal language when visiting www.boycottnovell.com.
Roy personally insulted Jeff Waugh and his wife by accusing the of corruption. Jeff has tried to talk sense into the boy several times, but Roy just remains a mean little boy, living in a delusional world of space-aliens from planet Microsoft that have taken over everything, including Linux.
That means he also sees the GNOME Foundation (http://boycottnovell.com/2007/11/25/gnome-foundation-ooxml/) and BSD's own TdR (http://boycottnovell.com/2008/05/02/bsd-gpl-stallman-smear/) as Microsoft's henchmen! What do we need enemies when we have 'friends' like Roy Schestowitz?
Put shortly: he is a repulsive, mean little jerk! Well, cheers to your sanity, Roy, and good riddance!
Follow his discussions with Jeff Waugh and see for yourself:
If someone called Mr. 'eet' says something, it must be right
More lies from compulsive stalker eet.
What YOU ARE
is for everyone there to see. Ain't I doing you a favour by linking to your site, my boy?
Let the readers decide (and by this I mean a broader public, not the inbred community at boycottnovell.org).
personal insults have no place on the internet ? Be Civil ?
There are important issues with all operating system software. Every distro is chasing the unstable releases; some are more successful than others, but the success is short lived, when the next release is coming too soon.
Why be emotional at all. Every one knows they must use the stable branch, hopefully it is still being supported.
There are information in each disagreement. OOxml, ODF, etc. are among many other standards. Please be civil, and humorous.
Some of us are stockholders of major corporations, and our opinions are biased, so our stocks do not become worthless. Novl stockholders and employees will defend their stock values.. Others want software free, and very strict at that. But in the end, Linux had to improve to the level of being usable; even if it only has a few sweet spots to run on your computers. We are lucky that some free software works at all?
