30 Similarities between PowerPoint and Impress
This is another article in my series showing the similarities between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office (pre-Office 2007).
Using a new product requires some re-learning. That’s unavoidable. But you rarely have to learn an entirely new set of skills - it’s just that the new stuff sticks out at us. This article is to emphasize the similarities between the OpenOffice.org Impress and Microsoft Office PowerPoint presentation tools. These are the things you can instantly do with no relearning. I hope that not only will this show some of the similarities but will show you some shortcuts you might not have known about in either program.

I'm more concerned about the dissimilarities & usability issues
I'm not impressed with Impress. It is the weakest of the OpenOffice modules, IMHO. Examples: you can't edit a graphic from within Impress; there seems to be no equivalent to PowerPoint's cropping tools and other goodies. And PowerPoint gives you a little rotation tool to grab so you can orient a graphic as desired. With Impress, you must pop open a dialog box and type in the desired rotation in degrees, and then the damned thing rotates in the opposite direction you'd expect. These and many other annoyances place it a decade behind PowerPoint. And I'm very sorry to say that.
