Microsoft's PUMA to prevent theft of audio data

At the end of April at the WinHEC 2005 developers´ conference Microsoft intends to furnish further details on the copy protection functions of the successor to Windows XP Longhorn, which is planned for 2006.
According to Microsoft copy protection is above all important in the case of high-definition video content (HDTV or HD DVD, for instance), because "content producers do not want to release this content for use on the PC without assurances that it will be protected against unauthorized copying and distribution."
Microsoft's statements indicate that it will only be possible to play HD video content above all on systems equipped with rigorous and certified content protection systems.
