KDE Developer Quits

Recently though several KDE developers came right out and asked, “Does KDE even need (certain) users?” Unrau’s opinion was quickly seconded by another KDE developer, Jason Harris, who said, “KDE, like many other open-source projects, doesn’t really need users at all. In the end though, KDE has ended up with at least one less developer.

The dispute which caused Unrau to leave dates back to conflicts within the KDE community. The spark for this dispute over ‘poisonous users’ appears to have sprung from a KDE developer thread that suggested on June 7 that a KDE fork was in order. This quickly ignited into a flame war between supporters of Plasma, the KDE 4 default interface, and KDE 3.5x supporters.

By then, however, the discussion had already boiled over into a heated argument of users vs. developers both on such KDE lists as the KDE developer list and on far more public forums such as Joe Brockmeier’s OStatic blog and Mark Asay’s CNET blog. The final result has been Unrau’s departure, at least for now.

kDE Plasma is pixel oriented ? And from data engine to pixels ?

It will take a concept of ascii codes to pixels to make KDE plasma more modern. However, this new plasma interface is just an interim solution.

What containment is, merely frambuffer files defined and zoomed to monitor sizes? It can be merely pictures taken by digital cameras as thumbnails and zoomed into containments(layout engine). A total change of webpage programming by cut and paste of pictures not by binary codes.

Until a more simple solution is defined, containment can not be easily achieved without confusion and bugs. Containment is nothing more than layout engine. Pixeled pictures by Mpeg4/h.264 can be readout by character recognition modules, and fonts changed at will, and zoomed into place.

This project may need some monetary support and serious supervision on standards, before kde 3.x is abandoned. Abandoned, it should have been, when plasma standards are set.
