Shape of things to come
ACER will be rolling out the Aspire One mini-notebook this week in Manila, its answer to the ground-breaking Asus Eee-PC. When it was introduced at the Taipei Computex last month, Aspire One seemed to be the most credible challenger to the Eee PC. But in a rapidly growing market, what’s hot is a fast-moving target.
For instance, Asus has introduced new Eee PC models featuring a larger screen and more memory. HP, the world’s biggest computer manufacturer, has also launched its own mini-notebooks, albeit at a higher price.
In the next month or two, it should be interesting to watch as Dell, the world’s third largest computer company, rolls out its “Dell E” series of mini-notebooks.
The company has not announced the new line, but the new netbook has been making waves on the Internet ever since Gizmodo bumped into Michael Dell at the All Things Digital conference in May and took pictures of his shiny new notebook that sported a fire-engine red high-gloss finish.
Since then, more intriguing details have surfaced.
