Ubuntu, Debian plan big releases

Linux fans are in for a treat in the remaining few months of the year as most of the major Linux distributors prepare to release updated versions of their operating systems. The first of these will be the granddaddy of Linux, Debian, which plans to release its latest version called Lenny in September.

October, however, will be the big month when Ubuntu Linux, Fedora and mandrake all plan to issue their latest releases. OpenSuse will follow in December with OpenSuse 11.1.

With October just over a month away Linux fans can look forward to a sudden flurry of releases from the major Linux distributors.

Last week already OpenSuse announced a second alpha of OpenSuse 11.1 and Mandriva released a second beta for its 2009 release. And the fifth alpha of Ubuntu 8.10, or Intrepid Ibex, is expected out on September 4.
