My first Linux laptop is the Asus EeePC netbook
My first Linux laptop is the ASUS EeePC.
This is a sweet machine in many ways. It boots up very quickly. All its functions are accessed through icons so you need know nothing. All its software is pre-installed so you need to do nothing.
Getting it out of the box and setting it up to recharge its battery took me all of five minutes. Just plug in the battery, connect the cables and find the on switch.
There is supposed to be a First Run Wizard for registration and license approvals but my review unit skipped right past it.
Configuring my network was a bit tricky, in that the terms used by my Netgear router and the Asus to describe my wireless encrytion were different. But trial-and-error worked.
The computer works. As you can see, our home page displays. I took this picture less than one hour after opening the box.

Chop stocks on Asus ? Hunt and peck, cloud computing ?
Many of us(K12) have not learned touch typing yet.
Net centric hopefully is multiple choice mouse clicks.
Journalists should hire a secretary with small hands and can touch type 150 words per minute(quick small movements).
I love my Wang keyboard, clicks and bounces; 65 words per minute is lucky, waiting for sound and feel, and move a lot to each key spaced so far apart.
Asus will survive, just waiting for the right moment to charge more for bigger keyboard with click and bounces for sexy touch sensations.
re: Chopsticks
I'm on the official "US Public Schools SUCK" bandwagon - but do you have a source for that little no-typing taught in US Schools tidbit?
K12 has elective computer I(typing), no formal required classes.
Computer I elective would be K8-12. Small children will learn by themselves.
Google search engine on k12 required classes, will show elective courses available as well.
Rumour on Asus keyboard R&D ? Audio on key clicks ?
Rumour has it that Asus will add sound for each key click.
Suspect that it will be below 1000 hz or two composite pleasant sound(one pushdown key, one release key) and milisecond duration each time keys are pushed. Longer duration will slow down touch typing, and higher frequency sound may annoy typist.
