Ubuntu Music Players: Better than iTunes/WMP?

Ubuntu is slowly gaining marketshare - increasingly with the tech savy end-users - and therefore brings the need for easy to use, fully featured entertainment solutions.

And believe me, there are some good music players for the linux platform, even better than iTunes/WMP/Winamp trio, and their functionality can be extended very easy using the plugin architecture, like Firefox.

In this article we're going to look at Rhythmbox, Banshee and Amarok, all fully featured, have graphical interfaces, plugins, online radio and podcast support.

They work beautifully to sync your MP3/MP4 music player as well as older iPods. iPod touches, iPhones and iPod Classic unfortunately don't sync because of the restrictions Apple put in the firmware. This is one of the reasons I have to use Windows part time.

Both have an option to minimize to tray and popups notifying you the song name and artist. They also integrate Cover Art downloader plugins which automatically download hi-res album artwork for your music.
