HP 2133 Mini-Note broken by own updates
We’ve recently been casting our eye over HP’s 2133 Mini-Note. We thought we’d check out reports on how Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop performs on the beast. Generally quite well, it seems - with one exception.
Like most modern OSs, Novell’s SLED prompts users to install it’s most recent updates. Open the 2133 and Novell’s Zenworks updater will ask you to install SLED 10 SP2, which contains a number of important bits including ‘cumulative security patches, maintenance updates, and bug fixes’, and essential 3G networking support for NetworkManager.
One problem, however: the update is breaking the 2133 for everyone. Over and over again. Even HP employees are having trouble. There seem to be a few issues, but the main one is related to the NDISWrapper WiFi setup used in the original setup.

Deliberate or not ? Favor 3G more than 802.11a/b/g or /n ?
What is the difference of SLED and openSuse? Interesting discussion to be sure. One you have to pay, the other you have to fix, or pay to get it fixed?
When Beranger told us, he does not have wireless hotspot, we know why Novell will favor 3G modem(slightly faster 750kbps dialup modem) on HP mininote?
Beranger also worries about his boss' mono/python upgrades; which can screw up their own Sled any version(4 total, Sled, Sles, Slert/ccur, slert/montaVista).
Well, HP is not selling 3G modem yet. So, people are wondering what now? Some announcement should come shortly?
Wireless 802.11 needs dhcpcd(ethernet device drivers including cable modem) update not Microsoft drivers. 3G modem(USB /usr apps) ISP subscription is more expensive than Starbuck hotspot fee without coffee habit?
We are stockholders of Novl. Opinions here maybe biased.
