No splash screen at boot-up :(

When i turn on my pc, and boot into Ubunto 8.04LTS, the splash screen is not displayed and it takes more than a minute for the start-up. for this reason I am forced to hibernate my PC most of the time. (even though it doesn't matter much)

another problem is that after starting up, if i choose to quit, the Quit menu also takes up more than a minute to come up, and the hibernate option isn't shown. This happens only the first time i click on "QUIT"after i start-up into Ubuntu, and doesn't occur if i resume from hibernation. the second and subsequent times are normal. (Although, the option "Suspend" doesn't show up anytime)

Please help!

Hi harshasrisri when the

Hi harshasrisri when the system is booting press Alt-Crl and F1 which will take you to the terminal output of the bootup sequence. It sounds as if there is something waiting for an input either from a process starting or keystroke.

I have something similar on an old Dell Inspiron that seems to hang, though its later as the splash screen is up, with or without looking at whats the problem Ctrl-Alt del will normally get you through it.

If the terminal info helps (though you'll have to write it down) post it to see if we can help.

Cheers
