Warcraft runs better in Linux
So they other day my wife decided to start playing World of Warcraft again. Thats fine since I still play and our accounts are still active. She has an HP DV5000t laptop with a dedicated Nvidia 7400 graphics card and 2gb of ram. The game has always played perfectly on the laptop even when I had to install Vista on it( I needed to learn how it works so I could fix the computers at my work). Anyway we update "WOW" and she logs in and gets the worst frame rates I have even seen. Once we got her logged into the game the FPS was 2-6 fps. She use to get around 20-30fps on the machine with better visual settings.
So now this is where Ubuntu comes in, I dual boot the machine between Ubuntu 8.10 and Vista. I log into Ubuntu and start up crossover games; which I run "WOW" under. The game starts and runs way better at the log-in screen. We log her in and the game runs like it use to. She is now getting 30fps average and loves it. I never thought I would see the day that a native windows game would run better on Linux, but that day has come! So now my wife who has never used Linux in her life is telling all her friends that it runs way better than Vista and that if they have any problems with their computers to give it a try.
