The great window manager speed test
Submitted by srlinuxx on Tue, 01/06/2009 - 07:31
The regular readers of my blog would remember a few articles ago where I observed that some window managers don't seem to be as fast in screen redraw speed as others. I stated that I would perform some tests and report the results. Well I did those tests and here are the results.
For these tests I used a program called x11perf which does massive amounts of screen redraw tests and reports on the results. How long those tests took I do not exactly know because I started them and then went to bed
.
Now to the background sound of a drum roll I list the four window managers that I tested. They are:-
KDE
OpenBox
XFCE
Enlightenment
These are the standard updated aptitude installation on a Debian Lenny distribution.
