Forrester: Netbooks confuse consumers
Netbooks fill an important niche in the consumer PC market, but the way they are being marketed is causing confusion with consumers, says a Forrester analyst.
Forrester Analyst JP Gownder said more than a third of US consumers are interested in netbooks as a second or third PC they can use on the go. A quarter of consumers would consider giving one of the ultra-light, low-powered and inexpensive (most cost between US$200 and $500) portables to their children.
"Netbooks are therefore more than just cheap alternatives that can hurt sales of traditional PCs - rather, they serve a distinct purpose," wrote Gownder. "In fact, netbooks represent a third form factor in the consumer PC space, in addition to laptops and desktops."
Helping drive netbooks' success is the fact that half of all US consumers believe that mobile phone screens are too small for data activities aside from messaging, said the report.
Cloud computing speed, a major factor ? Netbook USB IF ?
USB v2.0 is 640 mbps speed with 128 ports. USB IF(v3.0 or later) is edgeQam channels with multiple IF frequencies to have simulteneous analog transmission. Until then netbooks are for people who don't want to learn computer operstions. What you see is what you get.
Netbooks can not eat into notebook sales because it is slower on the net or in the clouds.
Everyone uses internet. It is a laugh to think that notebooks are for intranet or stand alone only. So, many experts can reason out the market shares, but the truth is the speed on the net that separates the size of markets.
People who don't want to learn and still get on the net is the last 35% of the potential market yet to be served by netbooks.
