Certified Linux computers

Acer miniPC is certified on Linspire; so is Wintergreen computers at TigerDirect by Linspire. Formerly, Great quality computers were certified by ThizLinux sold at Fry's. Walmart computers are cetified by Lycoris/LX and Linspire 5.0. The problem was not enough knowledge of these stores to teach people how to get on the internet by clicking on pppconfig on kde desktop. None of these computers have cable modem or Adsl facilities which situation will slow down the adaptation of Linux for the masses. Dell can now be cetified on Myah?

Walmart computers ?

Its from Microtel of Taiwan. Sells at $219.84 price points(delvery free at your nearest store purchased online) and is generally of sufficient quality(AMD2200+) to do Linux operating system(Linspire 5.0 included). With livecd(s) can be easily certified for other linux distros, although it comes with a hdd(40gb) and a cdrom, but did not include a floppy. It has no internal dialup modem. You have to buy an external modem for ease of connecting to the net. You have to add ethernet network(card included) and/or cable modem or Adsl facilities for broadband connections. You have to add a monitor to use the computer. I use an older Microtel(Via 800 mhz) with Lycoris/Lx.

the low down of Linux certified computers ?

Every year I visit Fry's in Las Vegas near the airport to look at the Linux computer they sell. Each time I find the software crashed on the display model, and no one tried to fix it. The price is listed at $269. When they have specials, it is sold at $169 as lost leader without any support. Linspire sales are therefore limited.

It reminded me of GM selling Toyota as Prism on their dealer lots. They always steer the customers to other Chevrolet models which have more profit margins.

So, this is the reason that future of Linux computers are not gaining more popularity. But lately, Mandriva got HP to offer Linux operating system. If Mandriva gets the normal 10% popularity, It may reach 3 million installation each and every year. We hope Mandriva will be patient and lock down their operating system like Linspire 5.0; which means to fix all their bugs instead of never have a version that can be used by newbies.
