nternet auction house eBay says it's building a data center in Phoenix and hopes to have it open next year. The company says the center will house engineering and technology professionals and be the seventh such location in the nation.
The company's decision follows an announcement by Google Inc. three weeks ago that it will open a facility in metro Phoenix, bringing 600 engineering, software development and technical support positions.
Chipmaker Intel Crop announced plans over the summer to build a third computer chip plant in Chandler, Arizona and hire 1,000 additional workers. A handful of eBay workers are already set up in a Phoenix, working on the auction site and its PayPal online payment division.
