After more than two years of development, Xfce 4.6.0 has just been released. Xfce 4.6 features a new configuration backend, a new settings manager, a brand new session manager and sound mixer as well as several huge improvements of its core components.

Improved desktop experience with Xfdesktop

Since desktop icons have been introduced in Xfce 4.4, people have expressed the need to allow the selection of multiple icons (rubber banding). With Xfce 4.6, the Xfdesktop manager finally implements this feature: you can select multiple icons, move them, remove them, etcetera..

Xfce 4.6 features a brand new desktop menu which allows you to manipulate files as with the Thunar filemanager contextual menu, but also to open applications, exit your session, or access the help documentation.
