$98 HiVision netbook has Linux 2.6.24 needs WinMe ?

People who work for low entry level netbooks know the difficulties with the bloatedness of Linux apps. While the kernel operating system can use 64 mB, adding apps will need 256 mB, adding Firefox will need 512+ mB. Opera may be a desirable browser to save dram cost.

On the other hand, WinMe/IE6.0sp1(on 2 gB hdd, oS is 1.08 gB) auto-updated can run with 128 mB of drams. And the reduced codes on the web(hotmail.com) makes it ideal to run on small screen and 360 mhz cpus, if FSB is 133 mhz or better(zero wait state preferred, with fine tuned refresh cycles)? WiFi/g will help web data transfer, but wifi static IP address shifts by ISP maybe a problem on denial of service.

So, WinMe basic(zero wait state synchronized atm, online and offline) maybe born for digital divide countries that XO laptop never reached.

We are continuing our encouragement on low cost computer designs. But operating system of known value has to be resurrected.

Footnote:
Computer power and speed is mostly zero wait state, not fastest cpu with slow memory bus speed. Fastest cpus need wait state over 14 clocks per data bit transfer. So cheap computers will speed up by zero wait state design economically?
