Two weeks, still loving Fluxbox
Two and a half weeks ago, I got a netbook and promptly installed Ubuntu, followed by Fluxbox. And after two weeks of almost continued use, I like it even more than when I decided to use it. Some of the points I really enjoy:
1. Strong keyboard shortcuts. As an emacs junkie as I am, I love keyboard shortcuts. And Fluxbox is incredibly flexible in defining or removing them: Even system-wide shortcuts are customizable. And avoiding the use of the trackpad (if it were as good as a Macbook one, I wouldn't mind, but it's not the case) is a big point. Now I have keyboard shortcuts, usually Windows key (I found something useful to do with it!) and a letter (i.e. WK+e for emacs, WK+f for Firefox) or Control+Windows key+letter, if it has already been defined (WK+p is Pidgin, and C+WK+p is gnome-screenshot).

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
