Browster Plugin Combines Open Source, Cash

Browster, Inc., a California-based company geared toward Internet search technologies, on Wednesday launched its Open Design Project, which will involve the general public in shaping the design for its flagship Browster plug-in -- with cash.

Similar to open source, but with a focus on concept rather than coding, Browster created the community-based program to improve and enhance its beta version plug-in. The process will incorporate user input and feature ideas in the first phases of product development before the software engineering aspect comes into play, officials said.
