SMPlayer and GNOME Mplayer - Mplayer Based players

Software

If you like mplayer, you will love SMPlayer and Gnome-Mplayer. Both SMplayer and Gnome-Mplayer are really good MPlayer front-ends and they do work great. SMplayer has long been my favorite multimedia player in Ubuntu and we have even featured SMplayer among the most wanted multimedia apps for Ubuntu.

SMPlayer

SMplayer is an incredibly good front end of award winning MPlayer multimedia player for Linux. SMplayer can play the most known audio and video formats without any need of external codecs.

SMPlayer can remember the settings of all files you play. Which means, for some reason if you have to leave SMPlayer in the middle of the movie, for example, and you come back and try playing the same movie again, SMPlayer will start from where you left it before, with the same settings that include audio track, subtitles, volume etc.

SAS, Canonical turn silly over open source

Zemlin's job, in other words, isn't to convince companies to adopt open source, but rather to provide a home for the nurturing of open source projects, so they're worthy of adoption. Similarly, Canonical can focus on contributing code rather than spooking enterprises into adopting more. And SAS? Well, it should probably start with 40 percent open source adoption and grow from there. Read more
