Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android
Oracle has filed a lawsuit against Google, charging that its Android phone software infringes Oracle patents and copyrights related to Java, Oracle said on Thursday.
"In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property. This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies for their infringement," Oracle spokeswoman Karen Tillman said in a statement.
The suit was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco and seeks a jury trial.
Google could not immediately reached for comment on the lawsuit.

Oracle v Google
Google will smash Oracle in court - if it ever gets that far.
Bye Bye Java
Oh dear Oracle I quite "liked" Java. Now you have just started what might end with Java down the same dead-end backwater as Opensolaris.
More and more people really do believe today that if it isn't "really" free as in air not beer, then drop it and find something nearly as good that is free move on and improve it.

Initial Thoughts on Oracle vs Google Patent Lawsuit
tirania.org/blog: Today Oracle sued Google over Java patents and copyrights that they claim Google's Android OS infringes. The lawsuit claims that Google knowingly infringed on those patents, and that the continued distribution of Google's Android is harming Oracle's Java Business.
I would like to think that this is going to be solved with a quick settlement where Oracle will shake Google for a few billion dollars and the entire matter will be put behind.
Oracle will likely want to settle with Google under terms that will only cover Google's own use as they want to go shaking other OEM trees for more cash.
An unlikely scenario is for Google to pay the bills for all Android OEMs as they are coming out fast and strong from every corner of the world.
It occurred to me that Oracle could sell all the Java assets for Google. But Google probably passed on this opportunity back when Sun was put on the market.
What Jonathan Schwartz Knew
Oracle Sues Google: What's Up with That?
consortiuminfo.org: My crystal ball isn’t any clearer than the next guy’s but here are a few thoughts to consider.
First and foremost, let’s remember that for Oracle as much or more than any other company, this will be all about business, and not ideology. That means dollars and cents, which means that it’s either direct revenues lost or available that are at issue, or an indirect economic motivation that has to do with a threat to, or an opportunity for, profits in some other fashion.
