Is Linux the computing Tower of Babel?
In the computing world there are many different languages. All these languages have a single purpose. To make the hardware do what we want. It gives a very powerful rush when we realise that, for the first time, we have been able to command and bend to our will a mysterious electronic brain. For some that rush never goes away and they become programmers.
Now a computing language is just that, a language. As humankind now speaks amongst ourselves in different languages so can humankind speak to computers in their language. Unlike humans though, computers never argue back and do exactly what they are told. Sometimes much to our chagrin.
As many people know more than one language so do programmers know more than one language. Actually computer languages are easier and simpler to learn than human languages. The basic rules are the same for all computing languages. Only the words and grammar change.
So what has this to do with Linux being a computing tower of Babel?
