Zorin OS 4 reviewed
Regular readers will remember a couple months back when I was evaluating various KDE-based Linux distributions in anticipation of Ubuntu switching away from the Gnome desktop in favor of Unity with the next release. At the time I didn’t come to any clear conclusions. Each KDE4-based distro had its own interface problems; none of them were as stable as I’ve grown accustomed to with Gnome in Ubuntu. I ran out of spare time to continue the testing, and just resigned myself to working out the details later.
Then I ran across a PCWorld article (linked on Yahoo News, of all places) touting Zorin OS 4. Zorin OS is an Ubuntu-based distribution adding a lot of extras that don’t come with standard Ubuntu – media codecs, additional packages, and such. This is not uncommon; there are several distros that do this, such as Linux Mint. But one thing in the article stood out. Zorin OS apparently will not be going down the Unity road with Ubuntu.
