First Stable Release Of Mageia In June: Exclusive Interview
Mandriva, one of the most popular free and open source operating systems was forked in 2010. The forked project, called Mageia gives long-time Mandriva users some hope. However, we have not yet seen any ISOs to try and test. What is the road-map of Mageia? When will we see the first stable release? What caused the fork? How sustainable is the project? How many developers are working on it? There are so many such questions which need answers. We approached the Mageia team to get answers to these questions. Here is an exclusive interview with Romain d'Alverny of Mageia.
Swapnil: When and why you decide to fork Mandriva? Was it not possible to improve upon Mandriva?
Romain: That was the first thing we tried to do, on several levels, from the inside and from the outside. We had a long-discussed foundation project, that did not make it through after several iterations (first one I have been aware of was in 2001). There was the Mandriva Assembly that was launched in the beginning of 2009. But all of that that did not really jelled out so well in the end.
