The SliTaz Experience
Slitaz is yet another Linux distro! (oh no…) It’s a very small and efficient one, ranking in the same category as Damn Small Linux and Puppy. I am probably not the most qualified person to talk about linux distros as i am not the bigest fanboy of them (i’m more of a windows/mac user – but let’s remember mac os came from the same place as linux), but if you want to hear a somewhat more impartial view on the matter keep on reading.
For all those non-techies out there (although i’m gussing only techies read this stuff), when you run an operating system from RAM, the whole thing becomes insanely fast. There are a few downsides to this:
Your system could run out of RAM and the whole machine freezes;
The Operating System itself has to be of a very small size (under 512MB and even that’s pushing it) to be able to run it in RAM
But all these risks and downsides are completely shadowed by the speed of an OS running from RAM. I am running SliTaz in a VirtualBox environment with 2GB of RAM for this review.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
