I baked my graphics card in the kitchen oven!
My computer started to freeze regularly, a few weeks ago, while running computer games. Last week it got worse, strange artifacts appeared all over the screen while doing normal work in both Linux and Windows.
Finally it came to a dead stop, I could only see random letters on the screen after rebooting and the operating system refused to boot.
Confused, angry and disappointed I ordered a new computer.
It takes 5 days for UPS to deliver my new machine, sitting here idle in my summer vacation was making me mad!
I started digging into the internetz till I found someone who claimed that it was possible to fix broken display adpaters by baking them in the oven!
After lots of WTF thinking I decided to give it a try.

Baking Graphic Card
What a really dumb thing to do, baking a electronic board in a kitchen oven with no vent system.
Just because the card says RoHS, doesn't mean it's not chock full of toxic material, just waiting to degas when heated. RoHS only means that certain heavy metals are limited (not Eliminated) such that the material can be landfilled without causing toxic contamination of the water table due to run off. It does nothing to protect the environment (or you) if you're dumb enough to burn them.
If you were there, why didn't you stop him?
Well, why? You must have been there, since you seem to know for sure that the oven had no vent system.
What a really dumb thing to do, to let someone bake an electronic board in an unvented oven! Shame on you.
Stop Him
Stop him? Why I fully support and encourage him and other dumb people like him to continue blithely on.
With almost 7 billion people on the planet I'm all for the self culling of the terminally stupid from the herd.
Re: Baking Graphic Card
As long as the board isn't being "cooked" for too long, you should be fine. I've had to cook the motherboard in one of my 30" computer monitors because of problems that arose - and it did fix the problem. Have a GPU that died on me also, so tempted to try the oven trick again.
hehe
- Honey, what's for dinner tonight?
- Your computer!
