A STUBBORN streak led me to try installing Ubuntu 12.10 (a.k.a. Quantal Quetzal) on my home PC again, after an anti-climactic failure last week to get past the “Preparing to Install” screen the first time around.
After doing some research, I found that for some strange reason, the new installer needed to work with a clean drive, a bug that I never encountered in any previous version of Ubuntu. This caused the installer to hang at a very early stage in the installation process.
Fortunately, the solution was in the Ubuntu 12.10 LiveCD itself.
